Activity 01
A Biology Education Program promoting STEM learning was successfully conducted on 24th January 2025 at Chavakachcheri Hindu College. Organized by BIOSOC under the HRNCET 2.0 project, the event introduced students from Thenmaradchi Zone schools to basic concepts in plant biology and microbiology through interactive sessions. The program was supported by educators, staff, and student volunteers, making it a successful and inspiring educational initiative.
Activity 02
A practical demonstration session for A/L Biology students of Chundikuli Girls’ School, Jaffna, was held on 29th May 2025 by 3M and 4M Botany students. The program covered A/L Plant Science, Microbiology, and Molecular Biology, providing hands-on laboratory experience and improving students’ understanding of biological concepts. The event concluded successfully with active participation and positive feedback.
Activity 03
BIOSOC organized an inter-level quiz competition for undergraduate students on 22nd July 2025 to encourage academic engagement and knowledge-sharing. Students from Levels 1 to 3 participated in topics related to plant science, life sciences, and recent scientific developments. The event was successfully completed with enthusiastic participation, followed by an awards ceremony on 23rd July 2025
Activity 04
BIOSOC, in collaboration with the Career Guidance Cell of the University of Jaffna, conducted a workshop on Effective CV Preparation on 4th June 2025 at the Computer Unit. The session provided practical guidance on CV writing, formatting, and career preparation. Participants gained valuable skills to improve their professional profiles and future career opportunities.
Activity 05
A Mangrove Awareness Program was conducted on 26th July 2025 at the Mandaittivu mangrove area by the Future Environmental Club in collaboration with BIOSOC. The program educated school students on the importance of mangroves in coastal protection and biodiversity conservation, encouraging environmental awareness and ecosystem protection.
Activity 06
A seminar for A/L Biology students of Kokuvil Hindu College, Jaffna, was conducted on 12th August 2025 with academic guidance from BIOSOC. The seminar covered important areas of A/L Biology, including Molecular Biology, Plant Physiology, Genetics, and Microbiology. Through interactive discussions and hands-on exposure, the program helped strengthen students’ conceptual understanding, exam preparation, and critical thinking skills.
Activity 07
BIOSOC successfully organized a plant sale on 15th September 2025 at the Botanical Garden, Department of Botany, University of Jaffna. Plants propagated by 3rd-year students as part of their Plant Breeding course were sold to support student initiatives. The event promoted plant care and green living while receiving enthusiastic participation from students, staff, and the public. It concluded successfully with strong appreciation from participants.
Activity 08
The BIOSOC committee improved the Department of Botany herbal garden by labeling over 50 medicinal plant species with their scientific and local names. This initiative enhanced the educational value of the garden and helped students and visitors easily identify and learn about medicinal plants. The project was successfully completed with the support of the department staff.
Activity 09
The first edition of the BIOSOC Newsletter – Volume 1 was successfully released on October 1st, 2025 (ISSN No: 3093-6144). The newsletter included articles written by 4M students, summaries of outreach activities conducted throughout the year, and notable achievements of alumni, highlighting the academic and social contributions of the society.

Activity 01
The Green Talk was organized on 23rd of July 2019 from 1.00 pm to 2.00 pm at 1B lecture hall. The resource person Mr.K.Jeyavanan, Coordinator Forestry Association, Faculty of Agriculture University of Jaffna delivered the talk on “Role of forestry on climate change and environmental conservation”.
Activity 02
BIOSOC arranged Green Talk on the topic of “laboratory services rendered by Palmyra Research institute and opportunity of research at PRI for undergraduates”. The talk was organized on 20th of August 2019 from 1.00 pm to 2.00 pm at 1B lecture hall. The resource persons Dr.B.Anuluxy (Research offer, PRI) and Mrs. M. Subjini (Research offer, PRI) delivered the talk.
Activity 03
A quiz competition was organised among all level 1G bioscience students of University of Jaffna to enhance their participation in extracurricular activities and to provide the platform to showcase their talents. The quiz competition was conducted on 25th of October 2019 from 4:00 PM to 4:30 PM at 1B lecture Hall. 42 students actively participated in the quiz competition.
Activity 04
Science exhibition for school students was organised by the faculty of science, University of Jaffna between 4th of March 2020 and 7th of March 2020 under the theme of “Science Education For Bright Future ”. During the exhibition BIOSOC organised quiz competitions and career guidance for the school students. Altogether 50 students from 15 schools participated.
